Balbharati’s Unique Gift for Students! 66,000 Maharashtra Schools to Receive Special Book Sets; Public Can Buy Them Too

Pune: In a significant initiative to promote reading among schoolchildren, the Maharashtra State Bureau of Textbook Production and Curriculum Research, popularly known as Balbharati, has announced a special book-gift programme for schools across the state as part of its Diamond Jubilee Year celebrations.

Under the initiative, a set of six books will be distributed to approximately 66,000 schools run by local self-government institutions in Maharashtra. The objective is to encourage students to develop a habit of reading beyond their regular textbooks and expose them to a variety of literary works.

The academic year 2026-27 is being celebrated as Balbharati’s Diamond Jubilee Year. To mark the occasion, the organisation has already undertaken several educational and student-oriented activities, including an exhibition of selected textbook covers, the creation of a Balbharati anthem, and the publication of five supplementary books.

Continuing these efforts, Balbharati has developed a special reading set designed for extracurricular reading. The book sets will be distributed to schools after the commencement of the new academic year.

According to Kishor magazine editor Kiran Kendre, the books have been curated keeping students’ interests and emotional development in mind. The collection includes stories and poems previously published in Kishor magazine, along with literary selections from Balbharati textbooks.

The initiative is expected to make quality reading material easily accessible to students across the state, helping them cultivate a lifelong interest in reading. In addition to school distribution, the book set will also be available for purchase through Balbharati depots and its official website, offering adults an opportunity to revisit cherished childhood memories.

Balbharati Chairperson Anuradha Oak stated that the six-book set has been specially prepared as a commemorative gift for schools under local self-government bodies during the institution’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
