Pimpri-Chinchwad: In a major step toward strengthening the power infrastructure, authorities have announced a comprehensive electricity upgrade plan for Pimpri-Chinchwad and the Maval Lok Sabha constituency, keeping in mind the region’s growing population over the next 20 years. The plan includes the construction of multiple substations and an ultra high voltage (UHV) center at Tathawade.

According to Shiv Sena MP Shrirang Barne, new substations will be developed in Pimpri, Chinchwad, Thergaon, Ravet, and the pilgrimage town of Dehu. Additionally, an ultra high voltage substation will be set up in Tathawade, while Rahatani will also get a similar high-capacity power facility along with the installation of new transformers.

A review meeting was conducted at the Mahavitaran headquarters in Pune to assess ongoing, pending, and proposed electricity-related works in the region. Senior officials including Regional Director Sunil Kakade and other engineers were present during the discussion.

Barne stated that the Mamurdi substation will be strengthened, and a 22 kV underground cable line will be laid to improve efficiency. Several substations in Thergaon, Chinchwad, Ravet, and Pimpri are already under development, while land acquisition for the Tathawade UHV project is currently underway.

Highlighting the increasing instances of power outages, Barne emphasized that multiple infrastructure projects are being initiated to ensure a stable electricity supply. A budget allocation of ₹17 crore has been approved under the District Planning Committee for electricity-related works this year.

He also urged authorities to expand the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Yojana by promoting rooftop solar installations and raising awareness about smart meters, ensuring timely resolution of consumer complaints.

In the Talegaon MIDC area, efforts are being made to ensure uninterrupted power supply for industrial consumers. Existing substations in Talegaon Dabhade, Urse, Ambi, Lonavala, and Pavananagar are operational, benefiting industries in the region.

Furthermore, a new ultra high voltage substation has been proposed in Gahunje, which will reduce the load on existing facilities and enhance electricity distribution across Maval taluka.

Officials confirmed that continuous efforts are being made to secure maximum funding from the central government for such infrastructure projects, with Maharashtra receiving one of the highest allocations so far.
