Maharashtra TET 2026 Gets Tough Anti-Cheating Rules
No dupatta, burqa, mask or cap allowed; QR-coded question papers, AI surveillance and face recognition introduced to stop malpractice in TET 2026.
Maharashtra TET 2026 Gets Tough Anti-Cheating Rules
The Maharashtra State Examination Council has announced a series of stringent measures for the upcoming Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) scheduled on June 28, aiming to eliminate malpractice and strengthen examination security.
In the wake of recent controversies surrounding examination paper leaks across the country, authorities have significantly tightened protocols for TET 2026. Candidates appearing for the examination will not be allowed to wear items such as dupattas, burqas, masks, or caps inside examination centres.

The council has also introduced advanced technology-driven monitoring systems to ensure transparency and prevent impersonation. Every candidate and examination staff member will undergo screening through metal detectors before entering the examination premises. In addition, facial recognition technology will be used to verify the identity of each candidate.
Officials have warned that strict criminal action will be initiated if any person other than the registered candidate is found attempting to appear for the examination.
According to Dr. Nandakumar Bedse, a massive surveillance network will be deployed across examination centres. Around 701 centres for Paper I and 1,028 centres for Paper II will be monitored through 18,717 CCTV cameras installed in classrooms, entry points, lobbies and control rooms.
The surveillance system will be supported by Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled monitoring. The council will also use Connect View for instant communication with centres and Photo View technology for candidate verification.
One of the most significant changes introduced this year is the inclusion of a unique serial number and QR code on every page of the question paper. The technology will allow authorities to identify the source of any leaked question paper at any stage of the examination process.
Officials stated that each question paper will effectively be traceable to an individual candidate. If a question paper or any part of it appears on social media, authorities will be able to determine exactly which candidate received that copy.
The council has also introduced an additional accountability mechanism. Candidates will be required to record how many questions they attempted and how many remained unanswered. This information will be verified by examination supervisors to avoid technical disputes later.
Examination Commissioner Mahesh Chothe said the measure is intended to prevent future technical complications and ensure a smooth evaluation process.
Special Rules for Scribe Facility
Candidates with disabilities who require a scribe must obtain prior approval through the Primary Education Officer. The council has clarified that the scribe:
- Must not be educated beyond Class 12.
- Must be below 19 years of age as of June 28, 2026.
- Must not be a family member of the candidate.
- Will not be permitted if brought to the examination centre without prior approval.
The new guidelines reflect the council’s determination to conduct the TET examination under one of the most secure and closely monitored systems ever implemented in Maharashtra.
