Maharashtra Budget 2026: Chief Minister and Finance Minister Devendra Fadnavis presented the Maharashtra Budget 2026 on March 6 in the state assembly, marking a historic moment as a sitting Chief Minister presented the state budget for the first time in Maharashtra.

Fadnavis stated that the budget is aimed at guiding the state toward the vision of a “Developed Maharashtra by 2047.” During his speech, he announced several major projects, welfare schemes, and infrastructure initiatives. He also dedicated the budget to late leader Ajit Pawar, acknowledging his contribution to the state’s financial administration.

Key Announcements in the Budget

1. Boost to Social and Cultural Initiatives
The state will celebrate the 200th birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule through various programs. Development of the Sant Gadge Baba Pilgrimage Circuit has been proposed, while infrastructure development will be carried out at Raigad in connection with the centenary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. The government also announced that the memorial of Balasaheb Thackeray has been completed.

2. Memorial for Ajit Pawar
A grand memorial will be built in memory of Ajit Pawar, who presented the state budget 11 times. A new Civil Service Award will also be introduced in his name.

3. Rural Roads and Transport Projects
The third phase of the Chief Minister Gram Sadak Yojana has been approved. Around 30,000 villages have already been connected and road work of about 2,450 km has been completed. The government also announced provisions for a Mumbai–Pune high-speed train project.

4. Agriculture and Farmer Welfare
Farm labourers will now be included in the Gopinath Munde Accident Insurance Scheme. Under the AgriStack Initiative, Farmer IDs have already been created for over 13.1 million farmers. The government will also launch a Natural Farming Mission in the next two years.

5. Industry and Investment
A new investment policy has been announced, with plans to establish MSME centres in every district and create 5 million jobs. Gadchiroli will be developed as a new steel hub.

6. Technology and Gaming Industry
The Indian Institute of Creative Technology will be set up in Mumbai. The state also plans to develop over 295 gaming studios, highlighting Pune as the most preferred city in India for Global Capability Centres (GCCs).

7. Tourism Development
A ropeway project will be developed at Vasota Fort in Satara district to boost tourism. Another film city will be established in Ramtek near Nagpur.

8. Metro and Expressway Expansion
A new underground metro corridor will be constructed in Mumbai. The Atal Setu will be connected to the Mumbai airport. The state aims to develop 1,200 km of metro routes and 6,000 km of expressways.

9. Farmer Loan Waiver Scheme
The government announced the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Farmer Loan Waiver Scheme, offering loan waivers up to ₹2 lakh for farmers with crop loans overdue until September 30, 2025. Farmers who repay loans regularly will receive incentives of up to ₹50,000.

10. ‘Ladki Bahin’ Scheme to Continue
The women-focused Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana will continue, with adequate funding allocated in the budget.
