Pimpri Chinchwad | The Slum Eradication and Rehabilitation Department of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is implementing a unique initiative with women at the center. Under this initiative, service tax bills are being distributed to slum dwellers and information is being collected through a mobile app by representatives of women’s self-help groups working under the Social Development Department of PCMC and affiliated with the “Sarathi Sonchiraiya” City Livelihood Center under the National Urban Livelihood Mission.

Under this initiative, the distribution of service tax bills began in March 2025, and since then slum dwellers have responded positively by paying a record service tax amount of around ₹76,83,397.

Through this initiative of the Slum Eradication and Rehabilitation Department, women have received employment opportunities, which has boosted their confidence while also providing financial support to their families. Today, these women are not only distributing service tax bills but also using modern technology to collect information through a mobile app. This initiative has elevated the social status of women in slum areas by providing them employment, and their contribution is strengthening the economic and social development of their families and society. Thus, the initiative is not only limited to revenue growth but has also become a symbol of women’s empowerment.

Service Charge Bills Delivered on Time

Earlier, slum dwellers faced issues like incomplete addresses and wrong mobile numbers, which caused delays in receiving service charge bills. But now, because of this initiative, bills are reaching on time and slum dwellers are voluntarily coming forward to pay service charges. This has fostered a sense of responsibility among citizens while increasing the revenue of the municipal corporation. Since the initiative started on March 17, 2025, service tax collection has reached approximately ₹76,83,397. This increase in revenue is directly contributing to the city’s development.
