Jalgaon | Central Railway has announced an 85-day traffic and power block at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Mumbai, as part of the ongoing redevelopment of the historic and UNESCO World Heritage-listed station. The block will be implemented on Platforms 16 and 17 from February 1 to April 26, 2026, and is expected to significantly affect passengers travelling to and from North Maharashtra and Vidarbha regions.

According to Central Railway officials, the redevelopment work is being carried out through the Rail Land Development Authority and includes strengthening of infrastructure, structural repairs, track improvements, overhead equipment upgrades and other critical safety-related works. The project aims to enhance passenger safety, increase platform capacity and provide modern amenities while preserving the heritage structure of CSMT.

During the block period, several up-route mail and express trains that usually originate or terminate at CSMT will instead terminate at Dadar or Thane stations. Trains heading towards cities such as Amravati, Akola, Nagpur, Ballarshah, Bhusawal, Jalgaon, Nanded and Latur will be affected. Passengers will need to use suburban trains or alternative transport to reach their final destination.

Railway authorities have appealed to passengers for cooperation, stating that the inconvenience is temporary and necessary for long-term benefits. However, daily commuters, students and long-distance passengers are likely to face additional travel time and expenses during this period.
