Mumbai | After months of deadlock over appointments to various state-run corporations, the issue within the Mahayuti alliance has finally been resolved. In the recently held meeting of the Mahayuti Coordination Committee, a formula for the allocation of corporations was finalized. All three parties in the Mahayuti alliance have agreed upon this formula.

Discussions over the distribution of state corporations had been ongoing within the Mahayuti for the past few months. Today, a meeting of the Mahayuti Coordination Committee was also held, where the distribution of corporations was discussed and a formula was finalized. According to this formula, BJP will receive the largest share with 44 corporations, Shinde’s Shiv Sena will get 33 corporations, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP will receive 23 corporations. This also makes it clear who the ‘big brother’ within the alliance is.

While the number of corporations allocated to each party has been decided, a tug-of-war continues between the three parties over control of key corporations. Influential corporations such as Mumbai MHADA, CIDCO, MMRDA, and MTDC have become points of contention, with all three parties staking claim to their chairmanships. In particular, a tug-of-war is underway between Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) and BJP over CIDCO and MHADA.

Through these appointments, the Mahayuti aims to reduce the discontent of disgruntled MLAs by keeping the upcoming local self-government and municipal elections in view. There is increasing demand for appointments to corporations from MLAs who did not get cabinet positions, as well as from long-standing party workers.
