Tenders worth ₹6,250 crore announced : Major relief expected for traffic congestion

Pune | The long-awaited widening of the Hadapsar to Yavat and Talegaon–Chakan–Shikrapur highways has finally gained momentum. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has announced tenders worth approximately ₹6,250 crore for these infrastructure projects. The development has been prioritized under the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis, with the work being divided into two separate phases.

A tender worth ₹3,146.85 crore has been floated for the six-lane widening of the Hadapsar–Yavat highway, which is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in the eastern part of Pune. Similarly, a separate tender worth ₹3,123.92 crore has been announced for the Talegaon–Chakan–Shikrapur highway, with four lanes up to Chakan and six lanes beyond.

These areas — Talegaon, Chakan, Shikrapur, and Yavat — are rapidly developing industrial and residential zones. With a growing number of vehicles, traffic congestion has become a major issue. The expansion of these highways is expected to enhance connectivity between Pimpri-Chinchwad and surrounding industrial clusters, residential zones, IT hubs, and urban settlements, thereby reducing the burden on existing infrastructure.

Citizens, industrialists, and local representatives are urging the state government to expedite the tender process and commence work at the earliest. These key infrastructure projects are set to provide a new dimension to the traffic network of Pune district, making travel and transportation smoother. The initiative will also benefit commuters traveling between Pune, Raigad, Ahilyanagar, Nashik, and Sambhajinagar districts.

“The widening of the Hadapsar–Yavat and Talegaon–Chakan–Shikrapur highways will offer significant relief from growing traffic issues in Pune district. This improved connectivity is especially vital for citizens in Chakan, Shikrapur, Talegaon industrial areas, and the Pimpri-Chinchwad region. Under the leadership of Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, the BJP-led Mahayuti government has made a firm decision to execute these projects swiftly. We strongly urge that the tender process be completed promptly and work be initiated without delay.”
