WhatsApp Outage: Photos, Videos Fail to Send

WhatsApp Outage: Popular messaging platform WhatsApp faced a major technical disruption on Monday, leaving users in India and several other countries struggling to send photos, videos, GIFs and stickers.

According to user reports, text messages were working for some users, but media files were failing to upload or send. In several cases, users could select a photo or video and see it in the chat, but the upload remained stuck on the loading screen.

Some users also reported seeing the ‘Retry’ option after attempting to send photos and videos. Larger media files reportedly took longer to upload, with some uploads failing altogether.

Photos and Videos Not Sending

Complaints related to WhatsApp began increasing on Downdetector, an outage-tracking platform, from Monday morning. While some users were able to continue sending text messages normally, media-sharing features appeared to be affected.

The issue was particularly noticeable when users attempted to send photos and videos through individual or group chats. In some cases, the media appeared ready to be sent but remained stuck during the uploading process.

GIFs and Stickers Also Affected

The technical disruption was not limited to photos and videos. Several users also reported difficulties while sending GIFs and stickers.

The widespread nature of the problem indicated that the issue may have been related to WhatsApp’s media-sharing or upload services rather than being limited to a particular smartphone, internet connection or user account.

Complaints Reported From Several Countries

The WhatsApp outage was not restricted to India. User complaints were also reported from the United Kingdom, France, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Spain and Colombia, among other countries.

However, the exact number of users affected by the disruption and the overall scale of the outage remained unclear based on the available reports.

Users Tried Several Fixes

With photos and videos failing to send, many users tried common troubleshooting methods. Some restarted their smartphones, while others switched between Wi-Fi and mobile data to check whether the issue was related to their internet connection.

Some users also tried reinstalling the WhatsApp application. However, for many users, these steps did not resolve the problem, particularly when attempting to send photos and videos.

WhatsApp Yet to Issue Official Explanation

According to outage-tracking reports, some WhatsApp-related complaints had also been recorded on Sunday, while the number of reports increased significantly on Monday.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp and its parent company Meta had not provided an official explanation regarding the exact cause of the disruption, based on the information available. It remains unclear whether the issue was linked to WhatsApp’s servers, media upload infrastructure or another technical component of the platform.

Users are now waiting for the service to return to normal and for Meta to clarify the cause of the widespread media-sharing disruption.
