US KC-135 Military Refueling Aircraft Crashes in Iraq
Five crew members onboard; incident occurs during mid-air refueling operation amid Iran conflict

A United States military refueling aircraft, the KC-135 Stratotanker, has crashed in Iraq during ongoing military operations related to tensions with Iran. According to the United States Central Command, the aircraft was involved in a mid-air refueling mission when the accident occurred.
Officials confirmed that a total of five crew members were on board the aircraft at the time of the crash. Rescue and search operations were immediately launched after the incident. During the operation, two aircraft were involved in the refueling process in the air. While one aircraft managed to land safely, the KC-135 tanker crashed.
The US military stated that there is currently no evidence suggesting that the crash was caused by an enemy attack. However, the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation. Authorities have not yet released official details about the condition of the crew members.
In a statement posted on X, the US Central Command said the incident occurred in the airspace of a partner nation while military operations against Iran were ongoing. A search-and-rescue mission was launched immediately after the crash.
The KC-135 Stratotanker plays a crucial role in US military operations, especially during long-range missions. The aircraft is designed to refuel fighter jets and other military aircraft in mid-air, allowing them to remain in operation for extended periods, particularly in large conflict zones such as the Middle East.
Meanwhile, an armed group known as the Islamic Resistance in Iraq has claimed responsibility for shooting down the aircraft. The group said the attack was carried out to defend the country’s sovereignty and airspace. However, US officials have not confirmed this claim and investigations are ongoing.
