Rohit Sharma likely to return to Mumbai team

According to reports, Rohit Sharma is preparing to take a major decision after the ODI series — he is likely to return to the Mumbai domestic squad. Despite announcing his retirement from international T20 cricket, Rohit has expressed interest in playing the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) for Mumbai.

A report from the Times of India states that Rohit has conveyed his willingness to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).

Rohit is currently playing the ODI series against South Africa, which concludes on Saturday. He may feature in the SMAT knockout matches scheduled in Indore from 12–18 December.

Mumbai’s performance in SMAT

The Mumbai team has been exceptional in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, winning all four league-stage matches so far. They currently top the Elite Group A with 16 points and are strong contenders for the knockout stage.

Sources within the MCA revealed:

“Rohit Sharma has expressed his desire to play the knockout phase of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Mumbai.”

Earlier, the BCCI had made it mandatory for centrally contracted players to participate in domestic tournaments whenever they are not on international duty or injured.
