Pune Police Error in Nasrapur Case, Court Rebukes

Remand copy corrected in 15 minutes after court criticism

Pune | Bhor | In a shocking development from Pune, a serious procedural lapse by the police came to light during the hearing of the Nasrapur assault case, prompting strong remarks from the court.

A 65-year-old accused was arrested for allegedly assaulting a three-and-a-half-year-old girl in Nasrapur, an incident that has triggered widespread outrage across Maharashtra. Protests have erupted in several areas, with citizens demanding strict punishment for the accused.

The accused was produced before the court by Pune Rural Police, where he reportedly showed no remorse and made an unusual claim, stating that he had been arrested for a minor assault case. The court questioned him about his awareness of the charges, to which he gave a misleading response

During the proceedings, the police submitted a remand copy; however, it did not include details of the accused’s past criminal record. The omission drew sharp criticism from the court, which reprimanded the police for negligence.

The court granted the police 15 minutes to rectify the error. Within the given time, the authorities revised and resubmitted the remand copy with the accused’s criminal history included.

Following this, the court remanded the accused to police custody until May 7. Authorities are now working to file the chargesheet at the earliest, and efforts are underway to fast-track the case.

According to officials, the accused had previous criminal cases, including charges of molestation in 1998 and offences under POCSO and molestation in 2015. He was later released in 2019.

Officials stated that a special investigation team has been formed, and the case is being handled with priority to ensure swift justice.
