Pimpri-Chinchwad: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has submitted its proposed ward structure to the state government for final approval ahead of the upcoming municipal elections. The number of registered voters in the city has seen a sharp rise — increasing from 11.92 lakh in 2017 to nearly 17.1 lakh in 2025, marking an addition of over 5.16 lakh voters in just eight years.

According to the PCMC administration, the surge in voter count is due to the city’s growing population and a significant number of new (first-time) voters. These young voters are expected to play a decisive role in the upcoming elections, influencing the fate of future corporators.

Ward Structure Finalization Underway

The delimitation process for ward restructuring is being carried out on a war footing. The state government has sought detailed information to finalize reservation for the mayoral post, and sources suggest the municipal election date will be declared after Diwali. Public hearings on the draft ward structure have already taken place, and the final version has now been sent to the state government. A final decision is expected by October 6.

Once approved, the lottery system for reservation of Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) will be conducted.

Voter List Program Still Awaited

The State Election Commission is yet to release the schedule for updating and publishing the electoral roll. Once the program is announced, the municipal election department will begin the process of dividing the legislative assembly voter list into ward-wise segments.

Each assembly constituency will be split into 32 wards, and voter lists for these will be prepared accordingly. Each ward is expected to have between 45,000 to 55,000 voters, making it a challenging task for candidates to reach out to their electorate.

“We have requested the legislative assembly-wise voter lists from the Election Commission. The voter list will be divided ward-wise once the schedule is announced. However, the cut-off date for finalizing the list has not yet been communicated,”
Avinash Shinde, Assistant Commissioner, PCMC

Based on 2011 Census

Just like the 2014 and 2017 elections, the current ward formation is based on the 2011 Census data. However, voter lists will be updated as per the current registered voters, ensuring accurate representation during the polls.

Voter Count by Assembly Constituency in PCMC:

  • Pimpri: 3,99,800

  • Chinchwad: 6,79,858

  • Bhosari: 6,29,129
