Commonwealth Games 2026: India Announces 126-Member Squad

However, India’s medal hopes are expected to face a major challenge this year as the Commonwealth Games will be held in a reduced format. Only 10 sports have been retained compared to 19 disciplines in previous editions. Popular medal-rich events including Cricket, Hockey, Badminton, Wrestling, Table Tennis, Shooting, Squash, Diving and Rugby Sevens have been removed from the programme, significantly affecting India’s overall medal prospects.

Despite the reduced schedule, India will rely heavily on its experienced Olympic stars. Two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra will spearhead the athletics campaign, while Tokyo Olympic silver medallist Mirabai Chanu returns to lead the weightlifting team. Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain will once again headline India’s boxing squad.

Athletics has the biggest Indian representation with 32 athletes, followed by 14 boxers and 14 judokas, while 12 weightlifters have earned selection for the Games.
