Muhurat Trading 2025: This Year’s Lakshmi Pujan Session to Be Held in the Afternoon, Not Evening – Check Date and Time
BSE and NSE announce special one-hour Muhurat Trading session on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, from 1:45 PM to 2:45 PM — a rare afternoon schedule for the auspicious Diwali trading ritual.
Mumbai: The festival of lights, Diwali, is celebrated as a symbol of prosperity, growth, and the triumph of good over evil. For India’s financial markets, this day carries a special spiritual and economic significance. Every year, investors eagerly await the Muhurat Trading session, held during Lakshmi Pujan, which marks the beginning of the new Hindu financial year.
This year, both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) have announced that the Muhurat Trading session will take place on Tuesday, October 21, 2025. Unlike previous years when the session was held in the evening, this year’s trading will happen in the afternoon, from 1:45 PM to 2:45 PM, as per official circulars issued by both exchanges.
According to the Hindu calendar, the timing of this auspicious trading session changes every year depending on the muhurat (auspicious period). Traditionally, the session takes place in the evening, but 2025 will be an exception. Last year, the Muhurat Trading session was held on Friday, November 1, 2024, from 6 PM to 7 PM.
The event marks the beginning of the Vikram Samvat 2082, a new year in the Hindu calendar. Symbolically, this trading represents prosperity and new beginnings for investors and businesses. Although the markets remain closed for regular trading on Diwali, they open for one hour for this special session.
Market analysts note that while the session often witnesses high volatility due to its short duration, its symbolic and cultural value far outweighs immediate financial gains. Many investors believe that participating in Muhurat Trading brings good fortune and success throughout the year.
Trading during this one-hour session will be open across multiple segments — including Equity, Commodity Derivatives, Currency Derivatives, Equity Futures & Options, and Securities Lending & Borrowing (SLB).
