The Maharashtra government has introduced significant changes to the Pavitra Portal teacher recruitment process, offering major relief to thousands of aspiring teachers across the state. The revised guidelines aim to address practical issues in the existing recruitment system while making the hiring process more transparent and efficient.

The government had earlier implemented teacher recruitment through the Pavitra Portal to ensure a fair and transparent selection process. However, several complaints regarding eligibility conditions and recruitment procedures prompted the School Education Department to issue a corrigendum on July 24, 2026, revising key provisions of the original Government Resolution issued on January 20, 2026.
Major Relief for Semi-English Schools
The revised rules primarily benefit semi-English medium schools, where recruiting qualified teachers had become a major challenge.
Under the updated guidelines, educational qualifications, professional qualifications, and Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) requirements will continue to follow the provisions of the Government Resolution dated February 13, 2013, in accordance with the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009 for Classes 1 to 8.
Key Changes in the Recruitment Process
For Classes 1 to 5, 6 to 8, and 9 to 10, recruitment for semi-English sections will now consider both the candidate’s professional qualification in English medium and the language medium of the respective school, including Marathi, Hindi, Urdu, Kannada, and other approved languages.
Candidates who passed their Secondary School Examination in a particular medium—or studied that language as their second language—will be eligible for recruitment in schools using the same medium.
Relaxed Eligibility for Primary Teacher Recruitment
For Classes 1 to 5, candidates are still expected to possess professional qualifications completed through the English medium for semi-English teaching posts.
However, if eligible English-medium qualified candidates are unavailable in a reserved category, the vacant posts will be re-advertised. Under the revised policy, candidates who did not complete their professional qualification in English medium will also become eligible if they possess qualifications such as:
- HSC Science
- B.A. / M.A. in English
- B.Sc. / M.Sc.
This relaxation is expected to significantly widen the pool of eligible applicants.
More Opportunities for Qualified Teachers
The revised recruitment policy is expected to reduce the shortage of qualified teachers in semi-English schools while creating fresh employment opportunities for D.El.Ed. and B.Ed. graduates with English or Science academic backgrounds.
The School Education Department has uploaded the digitally signed corrigendum on the official Maharashtra Government portal. Teacher organisations have welcomed the move, stating that the revised guidelines will make the recruitment process clearer, more transparent, and more inclusive.
