After a dry June, monsoon activity has strengthened during the first week of July, bringing widespread rainfall across the state. According to weather experts, an active offshore trough extending from South Gujarat along the Maharashtra and Karnataka coast, along with a likely low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal around July 3, is expected to further intensify rainfall over the coming days.

The IMD has warned that several regions could witness heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, while isolated locations may experience very heavy downpours, increasing the risk of waterlogging, flash floods and disruption to normal life.

Despite the recent spell, Maharashtra has recorded 41% below-normal rainfall since June 1, making the upcoming rainfall crucial for agriculture and water resources across the state.

Between July 2 and July 7, Konkan and the Ghat areas of Central Maharashtra are expected to receive widespread heavy rainfall. Parts of Central Maharashtra and Marathwada are also likely to witness moderate to heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Meanwhile, Vidarbha is forecast to receive heavy to extremely heavy rainfall between July 2 and July 4.
