The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of intensifying rainfall activity across Maharashtra, issuing an Orange Alert for several districts as heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds are expected to impact large parts of the state over the next two days.

According to the IMD, the influence of a well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal, along with an active cyclonic circulation over western Rajasthan, is strengthening monsoon conditions across the country. As a result, Maharashtra is likely to witness widespread rainfall accompanied by thunder, lightning, and strong winds through Wednesday.
The weather department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over the Konkan region and the ghat sections of central Maharashtra, while Vidarbha is also expected to experience thunderstorms with moderate to heavy showers.
The IMD noted that July has recorded significantly better rainfall than June across most parts of Maharashtra, although rainfall deficiency continues in a few regions. Stronger wind activity has also been observed in several districts over the past few days.
During the last 24 hours, Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg received widespread rainfall, while Pune and Nashik ghat regions witnessed intense showers. Meanwhile, most parts of Marathwada and Vidarbha recorded light to moderate rainfall.
Orange Alert Issued for These Districts
The IMD has placed Raigad, Ratnagiri, Satara Ghat region, and Pune Ghat region under an Orange Alert, warning of heavy rainfall and possible weather-related disruptions.
A Yellow Alert has been issued for Mumbai, Thane, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur Ghat region, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalgaon, Buldhana, Jalna, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, Nagpur, Gondia, and Gadchiroli, where thunderstorms and moderate rainfall are expected.
Light rainfall is also likely in Nandurbar, Dhule, Nashik, Ahilyanagar, Pune city, Dharashiv, Beed, and Parbhani, according to the latest IMD forecast.
Residents in alert districts have been advised to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, and follow updates issued by local authorities and the weather department.
