Maha TET Paper Leak Kingpin Arrested from Bihar

The alleged mastermind behind the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) Paper Leak 2026 has been arrested by Thane Police from Bihar, marking a major breakthrough in one of the state’s biggest examination scams.

The paper leak came to light after the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026, conducted by the Maharashtra State Examination Council on June 28 across 1,028 examination centres, was compromised despite heightened security measures introduced following the nationwide NEET paper leak controversy.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr. Pawan Bansode confirmed that the main accused, Bijendra Gupta, who had been evading arrest for nearly a month, was taken into custody in Bihar and flown to Pune Airport. He will be produced before a court and brought to Thane for further investigation.

Investigators have already arrested several accused in the case, including Gupta’s wife, Suman Gupta, who is suspected of playing a key role in coordinating the paper leak network. Her alleged involvement is currently under investigation.

According to police, Gupta is a former teacher who later operated coaching classes and has allegedly been linked to multiple examination paper leak cases in the past.

Question Paper Allegedly Sold for ₹1.5 Crore

During the initial investigation, Additional Commissioner of Police Ashok Dudhe revealed that the leaked TET question paper was allegedly being sold for ₹1.5 crore.

Police had earlier arrested three accused from the Kongaon area of Bhiwandi, registering a case against them after recovering documents and materials related to the leaked examination paper.

Question Paper Smuggled Out of Printing Press

Investigators revealed that the confidential question papers were printed at Mahim Patran Private Limited in Agra.

According to the investigation, two current employees and one former employee of the printing press allegedly smuggled copies of the confidential question paper out of the facility by hiding them inside the soles of their shoes.

Police claimed that Bijendra Gupta paid just ₹8,000 to recruit the three accused into the paper leak operation, eventually turning the stolen papers into a multi-crore examination racket.

All Arrested Accused Are from Outside Maharashtra

Police said two arrested accused, Rajeev Kumar and Akash Kumar, are residents of Bihar, while Dheeraj Singh is from Haryana. The trio had travelled from Delhi to Maharashtra before being arrested.

Authorities also confirmed that the Maharashtra government has not yet announced a fresh date for the cancelled TET examination.

The latest case has once again raised serious concerns over examination security in Maharashtra. Similar irregularities had surfaced during the 2018 and 2019 TET examinations, leading to multiple arrests and the cancellation of appointments of more than 9,000 candidates found involved in malpractice.
