The Maharashtra government’s flagship welfare scheme, “Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana”, launched ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, has received an overwhelming response from women across the state.

However, the implementation of the scheme has hit a major technical hurdle. Despite being launched two months ago, only 80 lakh out of 2.4 crore registered women have been able to complete the mandatory e-KYC verification, officials said.

The government had made e-KYC compulsory for all beneficiaries after reports surfaced of bogus entries in the scheme’s database. The process was introduced to ensure that only genuine and eligible women receive benefits under the program.

Due to widespread technical glitches and server-related issues, thousands of women have been unable to verify their details, creating a significant backlog for the administration.

Officials in the Women and Child Development Department have hinted that the state may extend the e-KYC deadline, considering the large number of pending verifications.

The Ladki Bahin Yojana, introduced by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, aims to provide monthly financial assistance to eligible women to promote their financial independence and social security.

As the deadline extension is under consideration, the government is expected to announce a revised schedule soon to ensure that no genuine beneficiary is left out due to technical difficulties.
