Jalgaon: Even though four days of June have already passed, lakhs of women across Maharashtra are still waiting for the May installment under the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladaki Bahin Yojana. While the state government has not yet made an official announcement regarding the release of the monthly ₹1,500 financial assistance, indications suggest that the amount may soon be credited to beneficiaries’ bank accounts.

As a result, women across the state are closely monitoring the government’s next move regarding the scheme.

One of Maharashtra’s Most Popular Welfare Schemes

Launched with the objective of women’s empowerment and financial support, the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladaki Bahin Yojana has emerged as one of Maharashtra’s most popular welfare initiatives. Under the scheme, eligible women receive ₹1,500 every month directly into their bank accounts.

Ahead of the Assembly elections, the scheme generated significant political and social discussion. Since millions of women from both rural and urban areas benefit directly from the program, there is considerable anticipation every month regarding the release of installments.

In April, the government disbursed both the March and April installments together, resulting in eligible beneficiaries receiving ₹3,000 in a single transfer. Following that payment, beneficiaries expected the May installment to be credited on schedule. However, with May ending and June already underway, many women have started approaching government offices, banks, and concerned departments seeking clarification about the delay.

Why Around 80 Lakh Women Were Declared Ineligible

The delay in installment distribution is reportedly linked to the e-KYC verification process and beneficiary scrutiny undertaken by the government.

To improve transparency and remove ineligible beneficiaries from the scheme, the state made e-KYC mandatory and provided a deadline until April 30. During this period, a large number of women updated their documents and personal information.

Following the verification exercise, the government reviewed the beneficiary database. According to official information, after completion of the e-KYC process, the number of eligible beneficiaries has reduced to approximately 1.66 crore women across Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, nearly 80 lakh women have reportedly been declared ineligible due to various reasons, including income-related criteria, documentation errors, duplicate registrations, benefits received under other government schemes, or incomplete information.

Government Likely To Take Decision Soon

Sources indicate that after removing ineligible beneficiaries, the overall expenditure of the scheme will decrease, enabling the government to ensure timely and regular payments to eligible women.

Against this backdrop, a proposal regarding the release of the May installment is expected to be placed before the state cabinet shortly. According to information received from sources, the pending ₹1,500 installment for May could be credited to beneficiaries’ bank accounts between June 10 and June 15.

Once cabinet approval is granted, the Women and Child Development Department is expected to initiate the fund distribution process. An official announcement regarding the payment is anticipated within the next few days.

Relief Likely For Women Who Missed e-KYC

Meanwhile, women who lost eligibility for the monthly ₹1,500 benefit due to incomplete e-KYC may receive another opportunity from the government.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has indicated that the government is considering giving women another chance to complete the e-KYC process. If approved, thousands of women who were excluded from the scheme could once again become eligible for benefits under the Ladaki Bahin Yojana.
