Taking to Instagram after the defeat, Messi expressed his disappointment while thanking his teammates and millions of supporters who stood behind Argentina throughout the tournament.
“The pain of this defeat is enormous. This wound will certainly take time to heal. But along with this pain, I will always cherish the unforgettable moments, the fight we gave in every match and the memories we created together,” Messi wrote.

The Argentine captain praised the dedication of his teammates and acknowledged the unwavering support of fans, saying the team once again proved it belongs among the world’s best.
“The love and support we received throughout the tournament and the incredible effort of this team helped us earn our place among the best in the world once again. For that, I am deeply grateful to everyone,” he added.
Messi also reflected on Argentina’s historic achievement of reaching back-to-back FIFA World Cup finals, saying the significance of that accomplishment would be appreciated even more in the future.
“We may not realise the value of what we achieved today immediately, but reaching two consecutive World Cup finals is something to be proud of. Thank you for every message and every word of encouragement. I also congratulate Spain on becoming world champions,” Messi said.
