IND vs SA: :
Former cricketers have strongly criticised Team India’s decision-making after Washington Sundar, who batted at the crucial No. 3 position in the Kolkata Test, was suddenly sent to No. 8 in the ongoing Guwahati Test against South Africa.
One former player openly said, “I have never seen such a confused Indian team.”

Sundar’s Role Shift Raises Questions

The 26-year-old Sundar has been selected as an all-rounder. In the low-scoring Kolkata Test, India promoted him to No. 3, where he played two patient innings of 29 and 31. Many experts believed that if he had stayed longer in the second innings, the match result could have been different.

Sundar made his Test debut in 2021 during the Brisbane Test in Australia, scoring a brilliant 62 runs and stitching a memorable partnership with Shardul Thakur. His career includes one century and four half-centuries, including a superb 101 vs England in Manchester.

India Still Searching for a Stable No. 3

For over a decade and a half, Cheteshwar Pujara held the No. 3 spot with unmatched consistency and technique. After his retirement from all formats, India has struggled to find a permanent replacement.

Several players have been tried at this key position:
Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, Hanuma Vihari, Karun Nair, KL Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal — but none have been able to establish themselves.

This constant shuffling reflects the team’s uncertainty, leading to the harsh criticism after Sundar’s demotion to No. 8.
