Raigad (Maharashtra): Heavy unseasonal rainfall has returned to the Konkan coast, bringing life in Raigad district to a standstill. Following a strong post-monsoon spell, incessant showers have disrupted daily activities, affected transport, and forced farmers to halt paddy harvesting operations.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure area over the Arabian Sea has triggered widespread rainfall across the coastal belt. A yellow alert has been issued for Raigad and surrounding districts till October 30.

Since Saturday evening, dark clouds had gathered over the region, and by Sunday morning, moderate to heavy showers began in several parts of the district. Continuous evening rains over the past few days have damaged harvested paddy crops, and today’s downpour has further worsened the situation. Farmers have now paused harvesting, waiting for the weather to clear before resuming work.

🌊 Tourism and Transport Hit

The rains have also dampened the festive tourism season. With Diwali holidays drawing tourists to popular destinations in Raigad, heavy rainfall disrupted travel plans. Beach crowds thinned out, and the Murud-Janjira ferry services were suspended due to rough seas, leaving several visitors disappointed.

Officials have hoisted signal number three along the coast, warning of dangerous sea conditions. The Gateway of India–Mandwa ferry services were halted from Saturday evening onwards. Regular commuters and tourists alike were forced to travel via road, leading to heavy inconvenience.

⚠️ Fishermen Warned

The sea remains turbulent due to changing weather conditions. The district administration has issued warnings to fishermen, advising them not to venture into deep waters. Strong winds, lightning, and thunderstorm activity are expected in parts of Raigad over the next 48 hours.

“Citizens are advised to remain cautious and avoid coastal areas. Fishermen should not go into the sea until the weather stabilizes,” said Sagar Pathak, District Disaster Management Officer, Raigad.
