Gokul Milk Union Declares 641 Societies Ineligible, Major Setback for Kolhapur Political Leaders
Nearly Half of 1,320 Newly Registered Primary Dairy Cooperative Societies Found Ineligible; Ruling Group Faces Significant Blow Ahead of Gokul Elections
Kolhapur: Around 50 percent of the 1,320 primary dairy cooperative societies newly registered in Gokul Milk Union have been declared ineligible. Assistant Dairy Registrar Krishna Thakare announced the second phase of results, delivering a significant setback to the ruling group that has controlled Gokul over the past five years. The decision is expected to affect the voting strength of supporters of Medical Education Minister Hassan Mushrif, Congress District President Satej Patil, Guardian Minister Prakash Abitkar, MLA Chandradeep Narke, MLA Vinay Kore and MLA Rajendra Patil Yadravkar.

Attention is now focused on the results of the remaining 235 societies. Of these pending societies, only around 30 to 35 are expected to qualify. This could increase the number of ineligible societies by nearly 200, further impacting the final eligibility figures.
The issue of eligible and ineligible societies has become a major point of contention ahead of the Kolhapur District Milk Union (Gokul) elections.
During the last five years, the newly elected board of directors and leaders in power registered around 1,320 new societies. Garjana Sanghatana leader Prakash Belawade had objected to these registrations, alleging that many societies were enrolled illegally and without fulfilling the required criteria. Legal proceedings regarding the matter are also underway.
Earlier, 267 societies were declared eligible following hearings conducted by Sujay Kadam. In the latest decision, Krishna Thakare declared 337 societies eligible and 441 societies ineligible. Out of the total 1,320 societies, 644 have been declared eligible while 641 have been found ineligible. The results of 235 cooperative societies are still pending and are expected within the next two days. The outcome is being viewed as a major setback for the ruling panel.
Following the completion of the hearing process, officials at the Assistant Registrar’s office have been working on a war footing to finalize the eligibility figures. The process, which began on Monday, continued until the early hours of the morning. However, orders related to 235 societies are yet to be issued.
Meanwhile, intense activity is underway regarding the submission of resolutions for the Gokul Milk Union election. Political disputes have intensified over the resolution process, and the disqualification of more than 400 dairy societies has added to the confusion. To prevent duplicate resolutions, the administration has implemented strict measures, while increasing demands from resolution holders have created challenges for political leaders.
During the day, 22 dairy societies submitted resolutions. Four resolutions each were received from Radhanagari and Karveer talukas, seven from Gadhinglaj, three from Chandgad, and one each from Shirol, Bhudargad, Ajara and Panhala. As of now, a total of 106 dairy society resolutions have been submitted to the Assistant Registrar (Dairy) office.
