An Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system has been implemented at the 12 stations opening in the first phase of passenger operations on Pune Metro Line 3. Each station will be equipped with a total of five AFC gates: two for entry, two for exit, and a separate entry point for persons with disabilities. A smart queue management system has also been deployed to ensure smooth passenger flow during peak hours. This facility will be rolled out at the remaining stations in a phased manner.

Under the Central Government’s ambitious ‘One Nation, One Card’ initiative, NCMC cards can be used on Pune Metro Line 3 from the very start of passenger services. Notably, this single card will also be valid for Pune Metro Lines 1 and 2, as well as metro services in other cities across the country, eliminating the need to carry multiple cards for different cities.

A dedicated ticket booking option for Line 3 is being added to the official mobile app currently used for Pune Metro Lines 1 and 2. Once the integration of all three lines is completed at the District Court station in the near future, passengers will be able to book tickets for seamless travel across the entire Pune Metro network using a single app. Another major facility for passengers is the WhatsApp QR ticketing service. Since tickets can be obtained directly via QR codes on WhatsApp, this will help reduce crowding at ticket counters. Additionally, ticket vending machines (TVMs) and ticket counters will be available at every station; the TVMs have been developed in accordance with global accessibility standards to ensure convenience for passengers with disabilities.

Options for purchasing tickets include cash, UPI, debit cards, and other digital payment methods. The installation of QR and card scanning systems at stations will make the entry and exit processes faster and more accurate.

The Pune Metro administration has developed this smart ticketing system with passenger convenience at its core. Given the future expansion of the Pune Metro network, the growing number of passengers, and the need for seamless connectivity, it is believed that this system will set new benchmarks in the public transport sector.
