Stone Pelting During Demolition Injures 20 Police in Pimpri
A routine anti-encroachment operation in Pimpri-Chinchwad turned violent in the early hours of Tuesday after a large mob allegedly attacked police personnel with stones during the demolition of unauthorized constructions in Kudalwadi, Chikhali. The incident left around 15 to 20 police personnel injured, including several officers, while multiple police vehicles suffered extensive damage.
According to officials, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), backed by heavy police security, launched the demolition drive at around 1:00 AM as part of its ongoing action against illegal constructions and encroachments in the Kudalwadi area.

As the operation progressed, police noticed a growing crowd of young men aged between 15 and 25 years emerging from nearby lanes. Authorities stated that no political leader, organization, or representative had approached the police, nor had any formal objection been raised against the demolition drive before the violence erupted.
The situation escalated dramatically when a section of the crowd allegedly began pelting stones at police personnel. Within moments, the attack intensified as hundreds of people reportedly joined the assault, targeting officers as well as official police vehicles.
Several police personnel sustained injuries in the attack, while government vehicles were badly damaged. Sensing the seriousness of the situation, police acted swiftly to disperse the crowd. After using necessary force to restore order, officials successfully brought the situation under control and completed the demolition operation.
This is not the first major crackdown in the Kudalwadi area. Last year, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation demolished illegal encroachments and unauthorized constructions spread across more than 1,000 acres. Following that large-scale operation, the civic body also initiated action against four unauthorized religious structures constructed illegally in the locality.
Authorities are now expected to investigate those involved in the stone-pelting incident and identify the individuals responsible for attacking police personnel during the government operation.
