IND vs AFG : India will begin its 2026 Test cricket campaign with a one-off Test match against Afghanistan starting on June 6. The match will not be a part of the ICC World Test Championship. Team India will be led by Shubman Gill, while Afghanistan will be captained by Hashmatullah Shahidi.
After nearly eight years, the two teams will once again face each other in Test cricket. Following the Test match, India and Afghanistan are also scheduled to play a three-match ODI series. Afghanistan are currently touring India for the multi-format series.

India and Afghanistan have played only one Test match against each other so far. That match took place in Bengaluru in 2018, where India, under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane, registered a massive victory by an innings and 262 runs.
However, Afghanistan have evolved significantly over the past eight years. The team has emerged as a competitive force in international cricket, particularly in white-ball formats, and has recorded notable victories against top teams such as Australia and England.

India will field a young and exciting squad against Afghanistan. Alongside key players like Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan, promising batter Devdutt Padikkal has also earned a place in the squad after impressive performances in IPL 2026 and domestic cricket.
