Humanity-Centric Healthcare Earns Society’s Trust: Dr. Dhananjay Chandrachud
Pune: Former Chief Justice of India Dhananjay Y. Chandrachud said that true respect in society comes not from earning money through a profession, but from transforming professional excellence into humanitarian service. He stated that medical service driven by compassion, ethics, and dedication strengthens society’s trust in doctors and healthcare institutions.
The remarks were made during the grand inauguration of ‘Namah Super Speciality Eye Care’, launched by cricket legend and Bharat Ratna awardee Sachin Tendulkar in Pune. The formal ceremony was held at Tilak Smarak Mandir in the presence of several distinguished personalities from the medical fraternity.
Among the dignitaries present were Narayana Nethralaya Vice Chairman Dr. Naren Shetty, Padma Shri awardee and senior ophthalmic surgeon Dr. Vikas Mahatme, senior surgeon Dr. Vidyadhar Vaidya, renowned joint replacement expert Dr. Narendra Vaidya, cataract and refractive surgeon Dr. Tanmay Vaidya, vitreoretinal surgeon Dr. Karishma Tendulkar, and Dr. Tejal.

Comprehensive Eye Care with Advanced Technology
Located in the heart of Pune, Namah Super Speciality Eye Care has been established with the vision of delivering ethical, expert-led, and technologically advanced ophthalmic treatment. The facility will offer a wide range of specialized services including neonatal retinal screening, pediatric eye care, myopia monitoring, dry eye treatment, refractive surgery evaluation, diabetic retinopathy management, glaucoma screening, cataract surgeries, and advanced retinal treatments.
“Eyes Alone Do Not Create Vision”
Speaking at the event, Dr. Chandrachud emphasized that vision is not merely about eyesight but also about knowledge, wisdom, and understanding.
“Eyes and vision share a deep connection. Eyes are only a medium to see; true vision comes through knowledge, intellect, and understanding. I am confident that ‘Namah Super Speciality Eye Care’ will give meaningful vision to countless patients,” he said.
Drawing a strong parallel between the judiciary and medical profession, he added:
“Democracy survives on people’s trust in the judiciary, while healthcare survives on patients’ trust in doctors. The Vaidya family has earned that trust through dedicated service, and Dr. Tanmay Vaidya and Dr. Karishma Tendulkar will further enrich this legacy.”
He further highlighted the strength of India’s youth in blending traditional knowledge with cutting-edge technology to achieve global excellence. Stressing the importance of ethics in every profession, he said modern hospitals require not just advanced machinery, but also human sensitivity and compassion.
Kabir’s Doha Highlights Importance of Mentorship
Referring to Saint Kabir’s famous doha “Guru Gobind Dou Khade…”, Dr. Chandrachud said that knowledge and skill are always inherited through guidance and mentorship.
He praised Dr. Tanmay Vaidya and Dr. Karishma Tendulkar for developing their expertise under the mentorship of Dr. Naren Shetty and Dr. Tejal at Narayana Nethralaya, adding that patients would benefit immensely from their advanced skills in the future.
“Doctors Need Sensitive Minds” – Dr. Vikas Mahatme
Dr. Vikas Mahatme stressed that both healthcare and judiciary stand firmly on the foundation of trust.
“Along with modern treatment systems, doctors must possess sensitive minds and emotional connection with patients. Knowledge is important, but skill developed through continuous practice is equally crucial,” he said.
He added that Dr. Tanmay Vaidya and Dr. Karishma Tendulkar have already earned immense trust among citizens through their dedicated work.
