Massive Crackdown in Kudalwadi Under the Devendra Fadnavis Government
Illegal Religious Structures Demolished
Pimpri-Chinchwad | In one of the biggest anti-encroachment drives targeting illegal religious structures in Maharashtra, the Devendra Fadnavis Government on Monday launched a massive demolition operation in the Chikhli-Kudalwadi area through the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and Pimpri-Chinchwad Police.
The high-voltage operation, carried out amid extraordinary security arrangements, witnessed bulldozers tearing down unauthorized religious structures identified by the administration as illegal encroachments. Police imposed tight security across sensitive areas to avoid any untoward incident, while multiple checkpoints and barricades were set up throughout Kudalwadi and adjoining localities.
According to administrative sources, more than 21 unauthorized religious structures had been identified in the Chikhli-Kudalwadi belt. Demolition teams, backed by a massive police force, initiated action early in the morning. Officials, however, did not release the final number of structures demolished till late evening.
The action is being seen as part of the Devendra Fadnavis Government’s larger mission to eliminate illegal encroachments and restore law and order in the area. Earlier in February 2025, the state government had conducted a historic anti-encroachment drive in Kudalwadi, clearing nearly 1,000 acres of illegally occupied land and unauthorized scrap businesses.

Government sources said the latest crackdown was aimed at reclaiming public land, curbing unlawful activities, and paving the way for planned urban development in the rapidly growing Pimpri-Chinchwad region. Authorities maintained that the operation was executed under due legal procedure and with a focus on maintaining communal harmony.
A massive police deployment was witnessed near the residence of BJP MLA Mahesh Landge and other sensitive locations as a precautionary measure. Senior police officials monitored the situation continuously to ensure peace and stability in the city.
“The Devendra Fadnavis Government has shown the political will to act decisively against illegal encroachments and activities threatening national security. No unlawful structure will be allowed to operate above the law. Though some Hindu religious structures were also affected, efforts will be made to legally rehabilitate them with due respect.”

He further stated that the state government is committed to transforming Kudalwadi into a planned “growth hub” and erasing its past image associated with illegal encroachments and lawlessness.
The operation has sparked widespread political debate and public attention across Maharashtra, while the administration remains on alert to prevent any tension in the region.
