PCMC Tax Row: “Provide Services Before Hike”
Strong Opposition Erupts Over Proposed Tax Restructuring in Newly Merged Areas; Corporators Demand Civic Amenities First
Heated Review Meeting After Chaos in General Body Session
Pimpri-Chinchwad: A crucial meeting of the tax collection department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation was held in the presence of Mayor Ravi Landge, where the controversial proposal regarding revised taxation in newly merged areas came under intense scrutiny.
During the meeting, public representatives strongly defended citizens’ interests and delivered a clear message to the administration: “Provide proper civic infrastructure first; only then consider changes in tax structure.”
The meeting was attended by BJP city president and corporator Shatrughan Kate, ruling party leader Prashant Shitole, opposition leader Bhausaheb Bhoir, standing committee chairman Abhishek Barne, along with corporators Rahul Kalate and Sachin Tapkir, besides senior civic officials.
Massive Objections Over Tax Burden in Newly Added Areas
The proposed tax restructuring has triggered serious concern in rapidly developing localities such as Wakad, Tathawade, Punawale, Thergaon, Chikhali and Charholi.
Under the new classification model, both residential apartments and commercial properties are likely to face a sharp rise in taxes, creating growing anger among citizens.

Corporators categorically stated during the meeting that imposing an additional tax burden without adequate roads, drainage systems, water supply, and civic infrastructure would be unjustified and unacceptable. Representatives demanded an immediate reconsideration of the proposed taxation framework.
Demand for Expert Committee and Administrative Clarity
The issue of taxation on open plots and other revised tax policies also surfaced prominently during discussions. Representatives insisted that the administration present a transparent and detailed explanation regarding the proposed tax formula.
Leaders further demanded that no new taxation policy should be implemented without appointing an expert committee to conduct a comprehensive study and assess its long-term impact on citizens.
Political Pressure Mounts Over Citizen Concerns
The meeting clearly reflected a united stand among local representatives against any sudden increase in tax burden on residents. Leaders emphasized that urban development cannot be separated from basic civic facilities and fair taxation policies.
The administration is now expected to face increasing pressure as residents from newly merged areas continue to question why higher taxes are being proposed despite incomplete infrastructure and inadequate municipal services.
