Triggering Concerns Over Allocation Chances

Pune: Applicants under the First Come, First Serve (FCFS) housing scheme launched by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority are facing growing anxiety due to delays in the document verification stage. Despite uploading all required documents during the online application process, many applicants continue to see a “verification in progress” status on their profiles, preventing them from moving forward.

The application process for housing units in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad began on April 23, attracting a significant response, especially from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Low-Income Group (LIG) categories. Separate schemes have been introduced for different income groups.

Verification Bottleneck Raises Concerns

Applicants are required to upload multiple documents, including Aadhaar card, PAN card, domicile certificate, caste certificate, caste validity certificate, Income Tax Returns (ITR), mobile number, email ID, residential address, marital status, spouse details, and information regarding benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

However, even after submitting these documents, verification for key items such as domicile certificates, ITR, and caste documents remains pending for many users. This delay has created confusion and concern among applicants, as they are unable to proceed to the final application stage.

MHADA Clarifies Verification Process

MHADA officials have clarified that document verification is not conducted directly by the authority. Instead, it is processed online through various government departments. For instance, domicile verification is handled by MahaIT, while ITR verification is carried out by the Income Tax Department. Other documents are verified through respective departments via integrated online systems.

FCFS Policy Adds Pressure

Since the scheme follows a “First Come, First Serve” model, applicants fear that delays in verification may result in losing out on housing opportunities. Without completed verification, applications cannot be finalized, further intensifying concerns.

Advisory for Applicants

MHADA has urged applicants to take the following precautions:

  • Upload clear and legible scanned documents
  • Ensure consistency in name, date of birth, address, and income details
  • Regularly log in to check application status
  • Re-upload documents in case of discrepancies
  • Contact the helpdesk if verification is delayed

According to Rahul Sakore, Chief Officer of MHADA, verification is conducted entirely through digital integration with agencies such as MahaIT and the Income Tax Department. Applicants are advised to exercise caution and accuracy while submitting documents to avoid delays.
