Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to chair a high-level virtual meeting with state chief ministers on Friday at 6:30 PM to review India’s preparedness amid the escalating crisis in the Middle East. The meeting will be conducted via video conferencing and will focus on energy security, supply chain stability, and coordinated response measures.

According to official sources, Chief Ministers from poll-bound states will not participate due to the Model Code of Conduct. However, separate consultations with senior state officials from these regions are expected to be conducted through the Cabinet Secretariat.

The meeting comes at a time when tensions in the Middle East continue to disrupt global energy markets and trade routes. The Prime Minister is expected to assess the readiness of states in handling potential fuel shortages, price volatility, and logistical challenges.

Addressing Parliament earlier, PM Modi had emphasized that the ongoing crisis poses multi-dimensional challenges for India—economic, strategic, and humanitarian. He highlighted concerns over crude oil and natural gas supplies, especially given India’s dependence on imports from the Gulf region.

A key concern remains the security of over 10 million Indians living and working in Gulf countries. The government has reiterated that ensuring their safety remains a top priority.

The situation around the Strait of Hormuz has also raised alarms, as disruptions in this crucial maritime route could impact global trade and India’s supply chains. Despite the risks, authorities confirmed that four Indian vessels have safely navigated the region.

To reassure the nation, the Prime Minister stated that India currently maintains around 5.3 million metric tonnes of strategic petroleum reserves, which can help cushion short-term disruptions.

Earlier, an all-party meeting chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh was held to discuss the situation. The government informed opposition leaders that there is no immediate shortage of petroleum products and urged the public to remain calm.

PM Modi has been actively engaging with global leaders, including those from Israel, Iran, the United States, and Gulf nations, advocating for peace and dialogue as the only viable path forward.

The upcoming meeting with chief ministers is seen as a crucial step in strengthening the “Team India” approach to effectively manage the evolving geopolitical and economic challenges.
