Massive Police Deployment for Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Elections

Over 6,000 Police Personnel Deployed; Preventive Action Taken Against 962 Individuals

To ensure that the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) elections are conducted in a peaceful, transparent, and fear-free environment, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate has deployed a massive security force across the city. A total of 6,091 police personnel will remain on duty during the election process.

Since the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, preventive action has been taken against 962 individuals. Of these, 50 habitual offenders have been externed from the district, while 438 persons with criminal backgrounds have been ordered to stay outside the Pimpri-Chinchwad limits. Additionally, 1,306 licensed firearms have been deposited with the police as a precautionary measure.


City on High Alert Ahead of Polling

In the run-up to polling, police authorities have conducted combing operations, route marches, and intensive patrolling across all police station jurisdictions. Special police teams will remain on continuous patrol, particularly in sensitive areas, crowded zones, and locations prone to traffic congestion.

The city has a total of 2,135 polling booths located in 420 buildings under the jurisdiction of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate. To ensure strict enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, 34 inspection teams comprising 68 police personnel have been deployed.

During routine election-related checks, the police have so far seized ₹16.17 lakh in cash. A total of 12 route marches have already been conducted, and in the final phase, criminal checking, naka-bandis (checkpoints), patrolling, and route marches will be intensified further.


Crackdown on Illegal Activities

Action Against Illegal Liquor and Narcotics

  • Under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, police conducted 276 raids, seizing liquor worth ₹10,36,972

  • Under the NDPS Act, 18 raids led to the seizure of drugs such as ganja, MD, and OG kush, valued at ₹66.19 lakh

  • 9 illegal firearms seized, and 11 persons arrested
