India Cracks Down on Illegal Gambling: 300 Betting Websites and Apps Banned
Government intensifies action against online betting, casino, and matka networks amid rising concerns
In a major move to curb the growing menace of illegal gambling and betting, the Government of India has banned 300 unauthorized websites and mobile applications operating across the country.
The crackdown primarily targets platforms involved in online sports betting, casinos, slot games, roulette, and peer-to-peer (P2P) betting. Authorities have also taken strict action against networks running illegal betting operations and traditional matka systems, especially those involving real-money transactions.

Officials stated that these platforms were violating existing regulations and posing significant financial and cybersecurity risks to users. As part of the enforcement drive, apps facilitating real-money gambling have been blocked to protect citizens from fraud and addiction-related issues.
Following the implementation of stricter online gaming laws, the government has so far shut down over 8,400 suspicious websites. Notably, around 4,900 of these were identified and blocked after the new regulations came into force.
The government reiterated its commitment to ensuring a safe and regulated digital environment, warning that further action will continue against any entities found violating the law.
