Goa Government Increases Pension for Freedom Fighters from ₹9,000 to ₹12,000

Panaji | 04 February 2026, : The Goa Government on Wednesday approved a major decision to increase the monthly pension for freedom fighters. The meeting of the Freedom Fighters Welfare Committee, chaired by Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, also focused on improving benefits and support for their families.

The monthly pension has now been raised to ₹12,000, while the allowance has also been increased from ₹3,000 to ₹5,000. These steps reflect the Government’s commitment to the well-being of freedom fighters and their families.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said, “The freedom fighters of our nation laid the foundation of our independence. The Government remains fully committed to safeguarding their dignity, ensuring their welfare, and providing all rightful entitlements to them and their families in a timely and sensitive manner.”

To further honour their service and sacrifice, it was decided that a Deputy Collector and a Deputy Superintendent of Police will attend the last rites of deceased freedom fighters and lay a wreath on behalf of the State Government. Chief Minister Dr. Sawant also assured that all genuine concerns raised by the Committee would be addressed through close coordination with the concerned departments.
