President Mohamed Muizzu was personally present at the airport to welcome PM Modi. But not just him – the entire Maldivian cabinet was present to greet him. President Muizzu welcomed PM Modi with a warm embrace. At this time, the full cabinet was present at the airport to receive Modi, including the Maldivian Foreign Minister, Defence Minister, Finance Minister, and Homeland Security Minister.
PM Modi is visiting the Maldives on the invitation of President Muizzu. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited as the chief guest for the Maldives’ 60th Independence Day celebration. This year also marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and the Maldives.

The friendship between India and the Maldives is considered the most significant strategic partnership in South Asia. Two years ago, the relationship between the two countries had become strained. President Mohamed Muizzu of the Maldives was responsible for that tension. To come to power, he had raised the slogan of “India Out”. At that time, many experts believed that India had lost a key maritime ally.
