While the atmosphere between India and America has heated up on the tariff issue, major developments are taking place. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is on a three-day visit to India. During this period, several important meetings are scheduled to take place in Delhi. The most important of these is his first meeting with India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, followed by a meeting with Ajit Doval. Most importantly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Wang Yi will also hold talks. After the U.S. imposed tariffs on India, China has appeared to take a stance against America.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet on August 19 at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. This meeting holds immense importance because Donald Trump has taken a different stance with China over the tariff issue. Trump has yielded to China, not imposing additional tariffs on them, instead granting a 90-day period to find a solution. But India has currently been hit with a 25 percent tariff.

On August 27, another 25 percent tariff will be imposed, making it a total of 50 percent tariffs from America on India. India has not accepted any of the U.S. conditions. Meanwhile, major developments are unfolding. Relations between India and China appear to be improving over the tariff issue. In the meeting between Wang Yi and S. Jaishankar, there is a strong possibility of discussions on the border issue as well. In recent days, tensions have been seen along the India-China border.

The entire world is watching how India carves a path out of the tariff issue. America has imposed a 50 percent tariff only on Brazil and India. Other countries have been given major exemptions from tariffs. Neighboring countries of India have not been subjected to such heavy tariffs. Essentially, if India accepts the U.S. tariff conditions, it will have a direct impact on the Indian economy. The meeting between Wang Yi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is extremely important and is being considered a major blow to Donald Trump.
