Bollywood fans may soon get the opportunity to relive one of Dharmendra’s most loved films on the big screen. Reports suggest that the hit comedy-drama ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’ is likely to be re-released in theatres as a tribute to legendary actor Dharmendra, who passed away last month at the age of 89.
Dharmendra, fondly known as Bollywood’s “He-Man”, died on November 24, leaving the film industry and millions of fans in deep grief. Even weeks after his demise, his family and admirers are yet to come to terms with the loss. In this emotional backdrop, the makers are reportedly planning to bring back Yamla Pagla Deewana to honour his cinematic legacy.
The film, which originally released in 2011, starred Dharmendra along with his sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol. It went on to become a commercial success and later spawned sequels, making it one of the most memorable family films in Hindi cinema.
Re-Release as a Tribute
According to reports, the re-release is being planned as a tribute to a man who was loved by generations and who left an indelible mark on Indian cinema. Sources suggest that the film still feels fresh, entertaining, and relevant even today, making it suitable for a theatrical re-run.
Initially, the film was reportedly scheduled to be re-released on December 19. However, due to the strong performance and popularity of another release, ‘Dhurandhar’, the makers decided to reconsider the date.
New Release Date Likely
Sources reveal that NH Studioz, which owns the rights to Yamla Pagla Deewana, has revised the plan. The film is now expected to hit theatres on January 1, 2026, though the final decision is likely to be taken in the coming days.
Directed by Sameer Karnik, Yamla Pagla Deewana holds a special place in Dharmendra’s career, as it showcased the real-life bond between the veteran actor and his sons on screen. The news of the re-release has already created excitement among fans, with many expressing their happiness on social media and eagerly waiting to experience the film once again in theatres.
If officially confirmed, the re-release will serve not just as entertainment but as a heartfelt tribute to Dharmendra’s timeless legacy in Indian cinema.
