Pimpri-Chinchwad | Correspondent: Momentum has gathered for the establishment of the proposed academic and training campus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur at Moshi in Pimpri-Chinchwad city. The Revenue and Forest Department of the Maharashtra Government has issued a Government Resolution (GR) approving the allocation of 28 hectares of government land (located at Gat No. 327 in Moshi) to the institute on a nominal annual lease. This development marks a significant addition to the higher education landscape in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area. It also brings another ambitious project from BJP MLA Mahesh Landge’s vision closer to reality.

According to the government decision issued on July 3, 2026, 28 hectares out of the total 37 hectares and 02 Ares of land at Moshi will be made available to IIM Nagpur for setting up its academic and training campus. The lease for this land is initially for 49 years, with a provision for renewal for a subsequent 49-year term. A nominal rent of just one rupee per year will be charged for this.

Previously, the government had decided to charge the market value for this land. However, following a decision by the State Cabinet on June 21, 2026, that earlier decision was revoked; prioritizing the broader interests of education, a revised Government Resolution was issued to allocate the land on a nominal lease basis.

Under this decision, the land may be used solely for educational and training purposes; it cannot be sold, transferred, mortgaged, or put to any other commercial use without the government’s prior permission. Additionally, the government has stipulated that the institute must consider granting priority or concessions to students, entrepreneurs, and administrative officials from Maharashtra within its academic programs. World-class management education and research are set to receive a boost in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area, paving the way for this industrial city to become a new hub for higher education. This project is expected to yield significant benefits for both local students and the industrial sector.

“It is our resolve that Pimpri-Chinchwad should evolve beyond being merely an industrial city to become a global center for education, research, and innovation. We envision the city establishing an identity as an ‘Education Hub.’ The ambitious project to set up an IIM campus at Moshi represents a major step in that direction. Thanks to the positive decision taken by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the state government, thousands of students will gain access to world-class education right within their own city, while a strong link will be forged between industry and academia.”
– Mahesh Landge, MLA (BJP), Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune.
