Political Shockwave in West Bengal After BJP Leader’s Close Aide Killed in Broad Daylight Firing
West Bengal: A major political storm has erupted in West Bengal after Chandrakant Rath, close aide and personal assistant of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, was shot dead by unidentified attackers in Madhyamgram. The brutal firing incident has intensified political tensions in the state following the Assembly election results.
According to reports, Rath was returning to his residence in Barasat while driving his car when bike-borne assailants allegedly chased his vehicle. As the car slowed down in the Madhyamgram area, the attackers opened fire, shooting four rounds. Chandrakant Rath was considered one of Suvendu Adhikari’s most trusted associates. A retired Indian Air Force officer, he played a crucial role in political coordination, election strategy, and organizational planning for the BJP leader. Suvendu Adhikari was not present with him during the attack.
Following the incident, BJP leaders launched a sharp attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress. BJP leader Dibyendu Adhikari demanded a CBI probe into the murder, while party leader Nikhil Prasun alleged that the killing reflected the “violent political culture” in the state. BJP leaders also hinted at a larger political conspiracy behind the assassination.
The incident comes amid intense political uncertainty in West Bengal after the Assembly elections. Suvendu Adhikari, who defeated Mamata Banerjee by nearly 15,000 votes in the Bhabanipur constituency, is being viewed as a strong contender for the Chief Minister’s post. The killing of his close aide has further escalated the political atmosphere across the state.
Police have launched an investigation and are currently searching for the accused with the help of eyewitness accounts.
