True King:
Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has sparked a big discussion in the cricketing world after declaring Virat Kohli as the greatest ODI player in history. Gavaskar, known for his straightforward opinions, stated that Kohli’s consistency and unmatched conversion rate have placed him at the very top.

During the first ODI against South Africa, Kohli scored a brilliant 135 off 120 balls, marking his 52nd ODI century — surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record of 51 hundreds.

Speaking to JioStar, Gavaskar said:

“There is absolutely no debate. Virat Kohli is the greatest ODI player ever. Players who have played with him or against him will tell you the same.”

He added that Kohli’s 52 centuries reflect the extraordinary heights he has reached.

Ponting also agrees

Gavaskar revealed that former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has also admitted that Kohli is the finest ODI player he has ever seen.

“When an Australian captain praises you, it means something. There is no room for debate after that,” Gavaskar said.

Kohli surpasses Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar held the ODI centuries record (51) for decades, but Kohli breaking it marks a historic moment.

“Once you surpass Sachin, the world knows where you stand,” Gavaskar commented.

Gavaskar on South Africa coach’s remark

When asked about South Africa coach Shukri Conrad’s controversial remark that they would “bring India to their knees,” Gavaskar responded:

“It may have been said in excitement. India–South Africa relations have always been respectful. No need to apologise, but a clarification would be better.”
