Standing Committee Boosts Revenue Growth, Civic Amenities, and Eco-friendly Development

Pimpri-Chinchwad: A meeting of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s Standing Committee was held today under the chairmanship of Abhishek Barne. Approvals were granted for various significant proposals prioritizing revenue growth, quality civic amenities, robust healthcare services, environmental conservation, and citizens’ welfare. By taking several policy decisions to propel the city’s comprehensive development, the Standing Committee underscored its commitment to development works.

At the outset of the meeting, tributes were paid to the late Deputy Chief Minister Ajitdada Pawar on the occasion of his birth anniversary. Chairman Abhishek Barne spoke appreciatively of Ajitdada’s vital contribution to shaping the city of Pimpri-Chinchwad. He expressed that the void created by his sudden passing is still deeply felt today. Standing Committee members Vikas Sane, Babasaheb Tribhuvan, Sulabha Ubale, and Shalinitai Gujar also paid tribute while recalling memories of Ajitdada.
During the meeting, approval was granted to award advertising rights for 80 flyovers and underpasses in the city via e-auction for a period of 10 years. This decision is expected to generate long-term revenue growth for the Municipal Corporation, with annual income increases linked to the Consumer Price Index (CPI). Additionally, approval was given to grant advertising rights on directional signage along roads measuring 18 meters or more in width for a five-year period. Both these decisions will significantly boost the Municipal Corporation’s permanent revenue sources.
Approval was also granted to extend the tenure of the existing agency responsible for the uninterrupted maintenance and repair of computer systems across various municipal departments until a new agency is appointed. This will help ensure the smooth functioning of administrative operations.
Approval was granted for the annual maintenance and repair of the cold storage facility at the morgue of Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital, aiming to provide citizens with better healthcare facilities. Additionally, approval was given to engage 37 drivers on a contract basis to operate ambulance services and handle other medical-related transport tasks across various municipal hospitals.
Approval was granted for the construction of a storm-water drainage line at Sambhajinagar in Ward No. 10. Permission was also given to undertake maintenance and repair work for footpaths developed under the ‘Urban Street Design’ concept; this initiative will ensure that pedestrian facilities in the city remain safe and well-maintained.
Approval was granted to allocate the necessary funds for the PMPML free bus pass scheme for citizens affected by HIV/AIDS. Furthermore, the expenditure for purchasing educational materials for students in the municipal corporation’s Urdu-medium *Balwadis* (preschools) was reviewed.
Approval was given to appoint a project management consultant for developing ‘missing links’ and other roads identified in the development plan for Ward No. 18 (Chinchwad). Sanction was also granted for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the sewage treatment plants at Charholi. Ex-post facto approval was accorded for the purchase of office furniture required for the new ‘Ja’ (Lohagad) and ‘La’ (Raigad) zonal offices.
Approval was granted for various maintenance and repair works—including drainage lines and chambers—in Ward Nos. 11 and 12, as well as the ‘Da’ zonal office area. The purchase of ‘Smart Guard Cutter’ equipment for the Fire Department was approved, which will enable more effective and rapid emergency rescue operations. Additionally, approval was given for repairing railings along BRT Corridor No. 3 and for the annual maintenance and repair of BRT bus stops. A decision was made to recommend a proposal to the Municipal Corporation’s General Body regarding financial assistance for auto-rickshaw drivers who officially retrofit their conventional-fuel rickshaws into e-rickshaws, thereby promoting eco-friendly transportation. Additionally, a proposal to make municipal land available on a lease basis for a new *Talathi* (revenue official) office in Dapodi was recommended to the General Body.
Approval was also granted for a policy proposal concerning the increased reuse of treated water from sewage treatment plants in private housing projects and the drainage connections for the remaining water. This decision will help boost water conservation efforts.
