Sonam Wangchuk’s Wife Opposes Forced Medical Treatment After His Hospitalisation
Geetanjali J. Angmo urges authorities not to administer medication without family consent, while Delhi Police say Wangchuk was admitted in compliance with medical advice and High Court directions.

New Delhi: The wife of noted education reformer and activist Sonam Wangchuk, Geetanjali J. Angmo, has objected to any medical treatment being administered to her husband without the consent of his family or the doctors who have been monitoring his health during his indefinite hunger strike.
Wangchuk, who has been on an indefinite fast at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET examination paper leak, was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital by the authorities in the early hours of Saturday.

In a post on social media, Geetanjali J. Angmo said that no oral or intravenous medication should be given to Wangchuk without the approval of his family and the medical team that has been overseeing his health for the past 20 days.
I am at Safdarjung hospital in Delhi where @Wangchuk66 has been admitted. Nothing should be administered to him orally or intravenous without take consent from me, his family and his doctors who have been monitoring his health for the past 20 days.

She also questioned the decision to hospitalise him, stating that Wangchuk was in stable condition on Friday and did not require hospital admission. Speaking to PTI, she maintained that the family’s consent should have been sought before any medical intervention.
According to reports, Wangchuk has lost around nine kilograms during his 20-day hunger strike but has refused to end the protest, saying that doing so without any response from the government would send the wrong message.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police said Wangchuk was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital based on the advice of specialist doctors and in compliance with the directions of the Delhi High Court. The police also appealed to protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar to vacate the protest site peacefully.
No official statement has yet been issued regarding Wangchuk’s current medical condition beyond the confirmation of his hospitalisation.
