Pune:
Central Railway has issued an urgent advisory for passengers as yard remodelling and station upgradation work is being carried out at Lonavala and Bhivpuri Road on the Mumbai–Pune route.
A special power block has been scheduled between November 26 and December 6, during which long-distance trains will face delays and local services will be curtailed.

Railway officials clarified that although the block continues till December 6, passengers will face disruptions only for four days, and normal timings will resume from November 30.

Major Impact on Long-Distance Trains

Long-distance trains travelling towards Mumbai, Kolhapur, Sangli, Karnataka, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Madurai and Odisha will be delayed.

Trains arriving from Karjat, Khopoli, Panvel and Navi Mumbai—including Jodhpur Express and Chennai Express—will be halted at Lonavala for up to one hour.

  • Chennai Express – 1 hour

  • Madurai Express – 10 minutes

Pune–Mumbai Local Services Affected

Between 9:57 AM and 4:25 PM on the Pune–Lonavala route, suburban local trains will start and end at Talegaon for the first two days of the block. They will not travel to Lonavala during this period.

This change will cause inconvenience to thousands of daily commuters and passengers with reserved tickets.

Why the Delay?

Central Railway is upgrading the Lonavala–Bhivpuri section, which includes:

  • Expansion of Platform No. 3

  • Addition of five Reception & Dispatch (R&D) lines

  • Construction of one additional loop line

The upgrade aims to improve capacity and train movement efficiency on the busy Mumbai–Pune corridor.

Railway Official Statement

Central Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Swapnil Nila, said:

“Due to upgradation work at Lonavala, long-distance trains will be delayed. Pune–Lonavala locals will run only up to Talegaon for the first two days. Passengers are requested to check the online timetable before planning travel. We regret the inconvenience.”
