Mumbai: Stand-up comedian Pranit More has announced his return to the stage with a new stand-up special titled ‘Ghayal’, months after stepping away from comedy following the viral ₹370 biryani controversy. While the announcement has excited many fans, it has also reignited debate on social media, with several users comparing the show to comedian Samay Raina’s comeback special, ‘Still Alive’.

More unveiled the poster of ‘Ghayal’ on Instagram on Wednesday, sharing an emotional message about his journey. In his post, he wrote that while he cannot change what happened, he can choose who he becomes because of those experiences. He described ‘Ghayal’ as the story of that journey and confirmed that the tour will begin in Mumbai.
Social Media Divided Over the Announcement
Soon after the announcement, social media users began drawing comparisons between ‘Ghayal’ and Samay Raina’s ‘Still Alive’. Some accused More of copying the comeback concept, while others questioned the timing and branding of the show.
One user commented, “You’re not Samay Raina. Stop trying to be like him.” Another wrote, “This feels like an attempt to create a comeback after controversy.” Several others reacted sarcastically to the show’s title, while discussions continued across social media platforms.

What Was the ₹370 Biryani Controversy?
The controversy dates back to June, when Pranit More was interacting with the audience during a stand-up performance. A member of the audience claimed he had spent around ₹370 on chicken biryani during a date and expected to “recover” that money after dropping the woman home.
More laughed at the remark and referred to it as “Peak Gurugram Content.” A clip of the exchange quickly went viral, triggering widespread criticism over attitudes toward women, consent and the responsibilities of stand-up comedians.
Public Apology and Police Action
As the backlash intensified, More issued a public apology, admitting that he should not have laughed at or encouraged the audience member’s statement.
Following the controversy, the Maharashtra Cyber Police registered an FIR, while the National Commission for Women (NCW) also took suo motu cognisance of the matter and initiated an inquiry.
