New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi once again won everyone’s hearts with his humble gesture during his meeting with the Indian women’s cricket team, who recently made history by becoming the first-ever ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 champions.

The victorious Indian women’s team met the Prime Minister at his official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, on November 5. Players were formally dressed in their BCCI blazers with medals around their necks. Present at the event were Head Coach Amol Muzumdar and BCCI President Mithun Manhas.

During the photo session, PM Modi stood smiling between Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Vice-Captain Smriti Mandhana, who proudly held the World Cup trophy. What caught the public’s attention was that PM Modi did not touch the trophy at all — a gesture that quickly went viral and earned widespread appreciation.

Why PM Modi Didn’t Touch the Trophy:

Sources reveal that PM Modi deliberately avoided touching the trophy out of respect for the players’ hard work and dedication. He reportedly said that the trophy rightfully belongs to the women who earned it through determination and excellence, and it was his duty to honor their achievement, not claim it symbolically.

During the interaction, the Prime Minister also spoke with players about key moments of their World Cup journey, praising their perseverance, teamwork, and the inspiration they brought to millions of young girls across India.

This isn’t the first time PM Modi has shown such humility. After the Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 victory, when Team India met him at the same residence, he had also refrained from touching the trophy, instead asking Captain Rohit Sharma and Coach Rahul Dravid to hold it as a mark of respect. That gesture, too, had gone viral for its symbolism of sportsmanship and humility.
