The Maharashtra State Disaster Management Department has issued a 24-hour Orange Alert for high tide conditions along the state’s Arabian Sea coastline, urging fishermen and coastal residents to remain on high alert and strictly follow safety advisories.
Officials have clarified that while a minor earthquake was recorded in the Arabian Sea, there is no tsunami threat. However, the high tide warning remains in effect, prompting authorities to advise fishermen against venturing into deep waters until conditions improve.

Fishermen have been instructed to avoid deep-sea fishing, securely anchor boats, trawlers, and fishing equipment, and monitor official weather updates. Residents, tourists, and children have also been advised to stay away from beaches, rocky shorelines, and other vulnerable coastal areas during the alert period.
Authorities have further appealed to the public to follow advisories issued by the Fisheries Department, coastal administration, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) as the situation develops.
According to official information, a magnitude 3.2 earthquake struck the Arabian Sea at 9:33 AM on Saturday, approximately 57 kilometres off the Vasai-Virar coast at a depth of 5 kilometres. Officials confirmed that the tremor was not felt on land, and no damage or casualties have been reported.
The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has also confirmed that no tsunami warning or alert has been issued. The State Disaster Management Department has urged citizens not to believe or circulate rumours regarding any tsunami threat.
In case of any emergency at sea, citizens have been advised to immediately contact the Indian Coast Guard (1554), the Coastal Security Helpline (1093), or the State Disaster Management Control Room (1070).
