LPG Cylinder Truck Overturns, Major Disaster Averted
Panic gripped the Savroli-Kharpada Road near Kumbhivali in Maharashtra’s Khopoli on Saturday morning after a truck carrying 350 filled LPG cylinders overturned, raising fears of a massive explosion. Fortunately, emergency responders confirmed that none of the cylinders developed a gas leak, preventing what could have been a devastating disaster.
According to officials, the truck was transporting 350 filled LPG cylinders from Chavane to Pune when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle near Kumbhivali. The truck veered off the road and overturned into a roadside ditch, creating panic among local residents.

Hearing the loud crash, nearby residents rushed to the accident site. While no casualties were reported, the accident caused damage to several roadside shop structures. Electricity poles were also knocked down, disrupting the power infrastructure, while the village’s water supply pipeline sustained damage.
Following the incident, Umesh Gaikwad immediately alerted the Khalapur Police and the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL). Police Inspector Sachin Pawar and his team quickly reached the scene, secured the area, and initiated precautionary safety measures.
Considering the potential danger, gas and chemical expert Dhananjay Gidh from Help Foundation was called to inspect the cylinders. After conducting a detailed examination of all 350 LPG cylinders, he confirmed that none of them had suffered a gas leak, eliminating the immediate risk of an explosion.
Only after the safety inspection did authorities allow relief operations to continue. As an additional precaution, MSEDCL temporarily disconnected the electricity supply in the area to eliminate any ignition risk. Police also regulated traffic around the accident site until the situation was brought under complete control.
The timely response by emergency agencies and the absence of any gas leakage played a crucial role in preventing what could have been a major industrial accident.
