NEET UG 2025: NMC Adds 147 New MBBS Seats Across 16 Colleges; Round 3 Counselling Deadline Ends Today
NMC revises the national seat matrix; candidates can lock their choices for Round 3 until 11:55 PM on October 18 at mcc.nic.in

In a major update for medical aspirants, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has made significant changes to the NEET UG 2025 seat matrix, adding 147 new MBBS seats across 16 medical colleges in India. The announcement comes ahead of the third round of NEET UG counselling, bringing fresh opportunities for candidates seeking MBBS and BDS admissions.
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has extended the Round 3 choice-filling deadline to October 18, 2025, following NMC’s inclusion of new seats. Candidates can now fill or modify their preferences until 11:55 PM tonight, while the choice-locking window will remain open from 4:00 PM to 11:55 PM on the official portal — mcc.nic.in.
147 New MBBS Seats Added
The addition of 147 MBBS seats has brought the total number of MBBS seats in India to 1,26,725 across 813 medical colleges. Previously, there were 1,26,600 seats in 812 colleges. The updated NMC seat matrix for 2025 reflects a net increase of over 9,200 new medical seats, despite a reduction of 456 seats due to non-renewal approvals in some existing institutions.
The newly added colleges include institutions from 16 states, with two new colleges in Bihar among them.
